The Vin Byrnes' Bittern

The Vin Byrnes' Bittern

The Australasian Bittern is a globally endangered waterbird that we know little about. It has recently been discovered that large numbers use the rice crops of the Riverina area in New South Wales. It's an unusual situation, with agriculture and wildlife conservation meeting so unequivocally. But the big unknown is where they go after the rice has been harvested and which wetlands they depend on during their non-breeding season.

At the October 2014 Board meeting, the MDWWG Directors unamimously agreed to purchase one of seven Bittern Naming Rights for Tracking Bunyip Birds (www.pozible.com/projects/186259).

Our bittern will be known as the Vin Byrnes' Bittern.
